Stampin' Up! Butterfly Prints &
Butterfly Paper Punch

My Spring workshop for my teacher group was last Friday.  They always want a 3D project so I decided to do a trio of projects with a butterfly theme.  I really love Butterfly Prints as it has several butterflies to chose from AND they can be punched out with a Stampin' Up! punch perfectly.
ButterflyTeachersProject1SSCrop ButterflyTeachersProject2ss

The treat bag was designed after a project that appeared in the Stampin' Up! Magazine for demonstrators.  I tweaked it a bit to fit my needs and then designed a greeting card and note card to match.  And you all know how I love 3x3 cards.  Nuff said!

  • Bone Folder (102300)
  • Sponge Dauber (102892)
  • Crewel Needle #2
Putting It Together Tips:
  • For the greeting card, after punching out one of the 2 3/8'' Scallop Circles, I placed it on a scoring surface and using the bone folder I scored across the Scallop Circle intersecting the center on all scores.  Then using a Sponge Dauber I applied Soft Suede Classic Ink to the edges.
  • To create the pleated background for the Butterfly Bag, I punched two 2 3/8'' Scallop Circles and scored as above.  Then I cut to the center (half way through the circle) and accordion folded both circles.  Next I applied 2-Way Glue Pen to an end fold and glued the two halves together.  In retrospect I probably would have shaded the circle as I did in the previous circle first to give more dimension.
  • The Embosslit Sweet Buttons die cuts were used both as decoration and for function to hold the pleated component together.  It was held to the bag using a Dimensional.  I will try to create a video on the steps to assemble this component in the near future.

Very Versatile Masculine Card

Stampin up very versatile
What's the secret to a masculine card?  Classy and clean.  Minimal embellishments.  Using the new Very Versatile stamp set from Stampin' Up!'s Occasions Mini Catalog, you can assemble a classy and clean card for many occasions.
This card is intended to cheer up a my niece's dad, who is recovering from a motorcycle accident.  He will heal but it's going to require patience.  I figured he could use a "wish-come-true" sentiment.  Here's a link to my gallery of masculine card ideas!
  • The stem from Very Versatile (Occasions Mini) was inked in Chocolate Chip and stamped on Very Vanilla card stock  (3 5/8" x 2 1/8").
  • It's layered on Sage Shadow  (3 3/4" x 2 1/4") followed by Chocolate Chip (4" x 2 1/2").
  • The Sage Shadow Textured card stock panel measures 4" x 2 1/2".  I added three of Stampin' Up!'s Chocolate Chip 5/16" Jumbo Brads.  TIP:  I haven't said this for ages.  You gotta love how  Stampin' Up! products coordinate beautifully.
  • The Chocolate Chip card base (4 1/4" x 5 1/2", scored on the side) is topped by a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Very Vanilla Textured card stock.
  • The sentiment is also from the Very Versatile stamp set, Chocolate Chip ink on Very Vanilla (2 1/2" x 3/4").
  • To add a little pizzazz, I cropped a piece of Textured Chocolate Chip with a Large Oval Punch and adhered it to the end.  TIP:  Cut after adhering to the Vanilla card stock so it's a clean edge through both layers.
  • I layered the sentiment on Sage Shadow card stock (2 3/4" x 1").
  • The perfect touch is a Stampin' Up! Very Vanilla 5/16" Jumbo Brad.  TIP:  It's from the same assortment as the Chocolate Chip used above--Silver and Whisper White are also in the Neutrals Assortment).
  • The sentiment is attached with two Stampin' Dimensionals for a little 3-D effect.
Stampin up very versatile large oval punch Did I mention that this card can be cut and assembled in less than 10 minutes?  That qualifies it for my Stamping 911 category (quick cards in an emergency).  Here's a link to a more Stamping 911 card possibilities.

Where the Boys Are

Stamping_for_boys Many stampers struggle with creating "boy" cards.  I am no exception.  I recently was asked by a reader for some masculine birthday ideas so I took a look at what I have done in the past and saw some common denominators.  "Less is best" comes to my mind when I design for a guy.  Think geometric, fewer layers, fewer embellishments, and hold the big blooms, please.  Neutrals and earthy hues rule.  Ah, and a touch of metal appeals to the most basic level of the modern male.
The good news is that with fewer details, your card can be completed in short order. This one qualifies for my Stamping 911 category . . . meaning if you need a card in an emergency, it can go together in 10 minutes or less.
A card base of Always Artichoke gets things rolling.  I adhered some of Papertrey's Spring Moss card stock, textured with a Cuttlebug Swiss Dots Embossing Folder.  The top image (any stem will do) was dipped in Versamark and embossed in White (on Chocolate Chip card stock).
The sentiment is from It's All Good . . .inked in Chocolate Chip and stamped on Whisper White.  I then punched it with a 3/4" circle punch and layered it over dimensional and a 1" Whisper White circle.  TIP: Attach your sentiment to your image first, then add the label holder and brads.  It's much easier this way.

The final touch is a punch of Spring Moss with the Word Window and 3 brads to balance the metal in the sentiment.
TIP:  A template makes spacing brads evenly a snap.  Done!

Big Shot Envelope Envy

Stampin up scalloped envelope trio
I'm convinced.  The Big Shot ($99.95) is cutting edge literally and figuratively.  These adorable mini envelopes were created with the Scallop Envelope Bigz Die ($21.95), created exclusively for Stampin' Up!  They're perfect for gift giving and accommodate 2 x 3 cards beautifully.  TIPDies from other manufacturers (including Cuttlebug embossing folders) are compatible with the Big Shot and the new Stampin' Up!dies are compatible with other die cutting systems (Cuttlebug included). The Big Shot and accessories will be available through Stampin' Up! beginning September 2.
Stampin up scallop envelope back TIP:  One of my readers recently advised me that current etiquette suggests that a smaller card (dolled up in a mini envelope) is more acceptable for gift giving than a large card.  The Big Shot makes playing by the rules fashionable, fast and fun.  At less than 2 minutes each to assemble (before embellishing), these mini envies easily beat the 10 minute or less requirement for my Stamping 911 category.

Stampin' Up! Flurries in a Hurry

Stampin up holiday treasures
199,742!  That's my visitor count as I post today.  You can count on a blog candy announcement as the 200,000th visit approaches!  Thank you so much for your wonderful comments and support of my Stampin' Pretty blog and Stampin' Up! business.
It's time for me to skidaddle on getting my Christmas cards rolling.  I have planned a blitz of holiday cards and ideas to share over the next week (and beyond--always with a chance of a few diversions).  Stay tuned.
Perfect for mass production--Stampin' Up!'s Rub-Ons (TIP:  Nov. 10-30, you can order SU's Rub-Ons on-line at 20% off with a $20 purchase) and felt snowflakes.  They helped today's card leap into my Stamping 911 category (cards you can make in 10 minutes or less).  Click here for more Stamping 911 ideas.
Stampin up holiday treasures close up I layered Whisper White Little Felt Flurries (Item #113697, also includes Riding Hood Red and Baja Breeze) on 1 1/4" punches of Textured Riding Hood Red card stock, following by a Scallop Square of Baja Breeze.  TIP:  The top snowflake was calling for a tidtad of extra attention, so a Ruby Red Button and a sliver of Old Olive card stock (as thread) were added.
The 4.25 x 5.5 card base of Baja Breeze is topped with a delightful pattern from Stampin' Up!'s Holiday Treasures Designer Series paper (bottom) and Riding Hood Red Textured card stock at the top.  I layered a crisp, white Season of Cheer Rub-On (112843, includes one sheet each of Whisper White and Chocolate Chip) on the top corner.
Stampin up SC200  This quick and easy card was wrapped up with a luscious piece of Stampin' Up!'s 5/8" Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon.  TIP:  I used the rotary cutter from the Cutter Kit (Item #106958) to cut a small slice on the left side to neatly slip the ribbon through and wrap around the entire card front. The sketch was inspired by Splitcoast Sketch Challenge 200.
Turn your holiday chaos into order!  Be sure to check out Stampin' Up!'s Country Living Holiday Kit Offer.

  • Basic Black and Old Olive Textured card stock give a rich finish, requiring fewer embellishments.
  • I used a retired Stampin' Up! 1/4" Circle Punch to create the flower centers.  Any 1/4" hole punch will work as a substitute (even the large hole on the Crop-A-Dile).

Happy New Year and You're a Gem

Stampin up occasions mini catalog youre a gem
Simplicity will be key for me in 2011.  Staying organized (not usually a problem, LOL), managing my time (always a problem--but sounds like a contradiction to staying organized) and finding even more opportunities to create are just some of my goals.  Eating healthier, continuing my walking routine (a resolution from last year) and reading more books (my recent favorite is Pigs in Heaven by Barbara Kingsolver) and simply more "hang" time with my family will continue to be at the top of my resolutions list.
How about you . . . do you have a resolve to do more stamping (maybe try a PPA challenge) or make a personal life change?  Please leave me a comment at the end of this post.  I would love to hear what's on your mind.

Friday Flashback

 SDC13154-1_by_Petal_Pusher
Today's cards were created for Splitcoaststampers when I was a member of the Dirty Dozen Design Team.  My term is over and I can share them with my Stampin' Pretty readers :)  These designs were for my husband, Scott, so that he could send out thank yous (often needing a little nudge--been there?).  I kept them clean, masculine and simple.
SDC13160-1_by_Petal_PusherSTAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:
  • Fine flourish stampin pretty The Stampin' Up! Fine Flourish single stamp was inked in Chocolate chip and stamped on Whisper White for the focal point.
  • Textured card stock is rich and just the right amount of texture to keep the cards crisp and masculine.
  • The card below was assembled in less than 10 minutes.  Click for more of my quick card samples.
  • At the time these were created, I used Stampin' Up! rub-ons that are now retired.  However, you CAN stamp on textured card stock as an alternative.

  • Punch up a quick background using circle punches.  A 1/2" and 3/4" Circle Punch were used for the right panel.  I used a 1" Circle Punch for the half circle detail above the sentiment.
  • Coordinating Stampin' Up! Crumb Cake Medium Envelopes (107297) will be the final step in getting this card ready to deliver.

Happy Birthday Window card - floating candles!

Good morning!

Click HERE for the Monday challenge!

Some of you have asked for a video showing how I made my 'Hundred Hearts' window card.  I made this card the same way and there is a video if you keep scrolling down!  Yay!

I have been having a great time making these window cards with the floating die cuts!  They are so much fun to make and so much fun to receive!

I used the George cartridge to make the card base.  I welded 2 rounded corner rectangles (5.88 w by 4.25 h) together on my gypsy.  Then I added a circle 'window' (3.33 h) from the Birthday Bash cartridge.

The scalloped 'window frame' comes from the Birthday Bash cartridge and was cut at 3.18 inches high.  (Scroll down for a video showing how I made this card)

The candles were cut from the Birthday Bash cartridge.  The center candle was cut at 2.11 inches high and the other two candles at 1.86 inches high.

The fun papers are from Pebbles and I used Baby Blue Bakers Twine.

The fun stamped sentiments are from Sweet Sentiments set 1 & 2

I added stickles to the candles and did some faux stitching and dots with my black and white pens.

Below is the first window card I made with the floating die cuts. Click HERE for my original post on this card.  I love the sentiment that goes with this:
Outside of card - A hundred hearts would be too few
Inside of card - . . . to carry all my love for you!

Here is a video showing how I made the floating candles window card!

Butteflies and Blogs Blog Hop!

Happy Birthday, Laura!
Welcome to the Butterflies & Blogs Blog Hop hosted by Laura at Makin Pretty Things!
I so excited to participate in this hop....Laura has put together an amazing lineup of talented designers.
You should have arrived from Pam's blog , if you just stopped by to visit click here to start at the beginning.

As you can probably guess by the name of the hop, we all have butterflies in our projects.  This is great for me because I love butterflies.
For my card, I used Birthday Bash for the card base.  I cut the base at 5.25"h.  The flower is from Walk in My Garden at 2.5 and the butterfly is from Straight from the Nest at 2.65.  The grid background paper and the glitter paper on the butterfly are both from DCWV.
The sentiment is from the Scrappy Moms set - All in the Family.  I love this butterfly....so pretty!

I  made a little gift bag from coordinating DCWV paper.

I cut the bag from Once Upon a Princess.  I rotated it to the diagonal on my mat so I could cut it as large as possible....sorry, I forgot to write this down.   I cut the flower at 2.25 and the butterfly at 2.5.

I guess this gift bag would be for a tiny gift....maybe jewelry....or a gift card to your favorite craft store.

I found a cool new card shape....this hexagon is from Winter Woodland.  I used hide contours to hide all the little snowflake cuts and then welded two shapes together.  The size for this is 5.25"h.  The flower pot is from Freshly Picked and is cut at 3.5"h.  The label is from Lacy Labels at .96.  I added some lavender pearls and some SMS twine to finish it off.  I LOVE the way it turned out.
Head on over to Scrappy Moms to order your new stamps and don't forget to check out all the Design Team members awesome creations.  You can find links to their blogs on my side bar.
We have a special guest designer for this release....Julie from Cricut Chick.

Terrific Tuesdays Challenge and a Winner!

It's time for another Scrappy Moms - Terrific Tuesdays challenge.  This week the challenge is to make a project with either Sugar and Spice or B is for Boy.  I have both of these cartriges and love them.  If you don't have one of these, you can still play along....just pick a similiar cut from another cartridge.

I used Sugar and Spice for the rabbit and the doiley shape.  I used my Gypsy to weld the two shapes together for my card base.  The pattern paper is from DCWV and the sentiment is from the new Scrappy Moms set - Spring Fling.   We can't wait to see what you come up with....click here to link up your project!

I have a winner for Jenn's Birthday Blog Hop!  The winner is.....

If you arrived here from Jess' blog, then you are in the right spot!  If you stopped by for a visit click HERE to start at the beginning.
I  have two projects to show you.

For my card, I used a standard A2 card base.  I cut this adorable little turtle from Birthday Bash at 2.5".  The polka dot paper is from K and Company.  The sentiment is from Scappy Moms Stamps - Simple Sentiments.

I found this cute little kraft gift box at Dollar Tree around Valentine's Day.  I added some matching paper and a giant brown bow.  I think it looks pretty cute and it was super simple to make.

Now for some BLOG CANDY!  I didn't have time to shop this week, so I am giving away a $10 gift card to either Michael's or Joann.  All you have to do is become a follower of my blog and leave a comment on this post with a way to get in touch with you.  I'll choose a winner on Tuesday.  Your next stop is Hailey & Rebecca.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Teacher Appreciation Card

I am so excited to share that Emma asked me to stay on with her My Creative Time Design Team for another term! I had such a blast working with Emma and my teammates, and I absolutely adore her stamps. I am thrilled to continue! Thanks, Emma!

Today I am sharing a card made with two stamps from Emma's "My Teacher Rocks" set. This stamp set is perfect for Teacher Appreciation Week or any time you want to give a little something to your favorite teacher (we LOVE feeling appreciated, LOL). I just adore this little stamp with the note to bring an apple to the teacher! The cork paper that I ordered from Michelle Wooderson's Etsy Shop just arrived yesterday, and as soon as I got it in the mail, I decided I had to make a little bulletin board out of it to use with Emma's stamp! The cork paper is very soft and easily cuts with dies in the Cuttlebug. Because it is so soft, I adhered it to a piece of cardstock before popping it up. My little apple is cut at 1 1/4" from Create a Critter.

Be sure to stop by My Creative Time to meet the new design team!

Simple Birthday Card

Here's a little A2 sized birthday card I whipped up with the Cricut Wrap It Up cartridge. I cut the cupcake at 4". The patterned paper is from the Imagine All Wrapped Up cartridge, and the sentiment is from My Creative Time's "Wow! So Many Candles" stamp set. Even though the card is simple, I think all of the popped up layers of the cupcake give it a little special something.

National Scrapbook Day Challenge #1

Click here to enter my giveaway of the 3 month Cricut Circle subscriptions!

Finished! My Pink Stamper's first challenge for today is to make anything "cupcake"! I decided to make a birthday card. I've been into making square cards lately, and if they are kept at 4 1/4", they can still go into an A2 size envelope with no extra postage. For my card, I cut the cupcake from the Cake Basics cartridge at 2 3/4". Here's a look at the inside:

Recipe:
(all materials Papertrey Ink)

8 1/2" x 4 1/4" Dark Chocolate Cardstock, scored at 4 1/4"
4" x 4 " Sweet Blush Cardstock
3 3/4" x 3 3/4" Distressed Dots Patterned Paper
Pure Poppy Cardstock
Pretty Pastels Patterned Paper

"Inside & Out: Birthday" Stamp Set
Pure Poppy & Dark Chocolate Ink

National Scrapbooking Day Challenge #3

It's been a busy day, but I was able to complete another My Pink Stamper challenge. This one was to make a project with a breast cancer theme. I made my card using the Wrap It Up cartridge. The card is cut at 4 1/4". The white circle is a layer, and I copied it on my Gypsy to make the brown circle, which is just a little bigger.

My ribbon is from the brand new "Race for a Cure" stamp set from My Creative Time. Emma has created this wonderful set and is donating $2 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for every set sold. I stamped the ribbon on pink cardstock and stamped it with polka-dots too, before cutting it out. "Courage" is one of the many stamps from this set that can be stamped onto the ribbon. Here is the rest of the set:

Recipe:

Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush, Dark Chocolate, & Stamper's Select White Cardstock
Cuttlebug "Birds and Swirls" Embossing Folder
My Creative Time's "Race for the Cure" Stamp Set
Papertrey Ink "Polka Dot Basics" Stamp Set
Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush & Dark Chocolate Ink
Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen
ColorBox Cat's Eye Chalk Ink

Labels: circle card, cuttlebug

Now, on to the card. This is a tri-shutter card. I first learned how create one of these by watching a video by Mary on Cardz TV. If you want to make one, I recommend checking out her video here. You start with a 5 1/2" x 12" sheet of cardstock, and with all of the scoring and folding, it ends up to be 5 1/2" x 4" card when folded up.

I had fun choosing my sentiments. I used three of Emma's stamp sets! "Birthday wishes" is from Polka Dot "SURPRISE", "To the Best" is from My Teacher Rocks!, and "Paper Princess" is from Paper Princess! Click here for ordering information on all of Emma's stamp sets. I embossed all of these with white embossing powder, and I added buttons made with Papertrey Ink dies, coasters (to make them thicker), and patterned paper. My "birthday cake" is cut at 4 1/2" from the Wrap it Up cartridge, trimmed down to fit my space, and the candles (also from this cartridge) are cut at 2".

I cut the party hat at 3 3/4" from the Birthday Bash cartridge. Last, but not least, is my mini-Emma. She is printed and cut from the Best Friends Imagine cartridge at 4.8". I used layers from 3 different girls to get her look. Emma's Gypsy is cut at 1/2" from the Cricut Everyday cartridge.

"Just a Note" Style Card

Sadly, it just wasn't in the budget for me to purchase the new Cricut Expression 2, and I LOVE the "Just a Note" cartridge that is included in it. I was so bummed to hear that it wouldn't ever be sold separately. However, after looking at cards people have made with it, I realized that I could make this style card on my Gypsy! I just needed to weld together some rectangles and shapes that I wanted to include. I decided to try it for a little card for a friend/teammate. Her birthday is on Saturday, and the rest of the 3rd grade team and I decided we would celebrate it during our planning time on Monday. We didn't want her to feel like we forgot her birthday, so we're giving this card to her today to let her know our plan. "Save the Date" is from the Sweethearts cartridge. I welded it to my card base and cut it again in patterned paper for a layer.

My party hat is from Straight From the Nest. Again, I welded it to the card base and then also cut it with all of its layers. Before putting it down, I added the green polka-dotted rectangle.

Finally, the center rounded part of my card is actually a liner from a Wild Card envelope. I adjusted the width and height to make it just the right size. I added more polka-dotted paper, and some plain cardstock for my message. I also die cut a felt flower and a tag with some PTI supplies to dress up this layer a bit.

"April Showers" Blog Hop!

Happy April!
You should've found my blog for this April Showers blog hop from Martha, but if not please hop over to
Kathryn to start at the beginning!
What usually comes to mind when people think of April is damp, rainy weather, but we're making it lovely today!
Here's my card...
And here it is open!
When I think of April (my birth month), I automatically think of all the trees and flowers and butterflies!
I wanted to do something a little different with this card, so I cut the scalloped square from Birthday Bash and attached this
4.5" x 6.25" card.
I inked the edges in a mossy green pigment ink, which I then stamped all the swirls and flowers on the front with.
The sentiment is from Scrappy Moms Stamps
"Designer's Choice" stamp set.
The butterflies are cut from Once Upon A Princess; the smaller ones on top are an EK Success punch.
I added tiny pearls to the butterflies.
I added the ribbon (Chocolate Chip from Stampin Up) underneath the card and tied it around to close the card.
I love how this card turned out and I hope you do, too!
Oh, before I forget---Come back tomorrow for day two of this hop and another project!
